Tincan Communications works with clients remotely or on site in Vancouver, providing copywriting and content services to a range of businesses, either directly or through their marketing, PR and advertising agencies.

Based in Vancouver, but with clients across the map (thank you Internet!), Tincan also produces website effectiveness reviews for clients and, occasionally, gets involved with basic search engine optimisation and online marketing initiatives for small businesses.

Principal:

Tincan's founder, principal and sole employee is Rob Mathison, a freelance writer in Vancouver with extensive experience in journalism, copywriting, contract publishing and marketing (including direct and online marketing). Rob has been writing professionally and producing B-to-B and B-to-C marketing communications for many years.

A creative, multi-disciplined professional, he has worked with clients from multiple industries, including finance, retail, sports and recreation, publishing, education, e-learning, government, manufacturing, IT, tourism, ecommerce, high tech, and automotive.

Rob is a versatile writer, capable of tackling any subject. An experienced marketing writer, he has also worked as a sports writer, copy editor and news and feature writer for newspapers and magazines in the UK, has ghost-written a number of "how-to" business books, and is currently Contributing Author of Vancouver: The Complete Residents' Guide.

Professional background and qualifications:

After starting out as a trainee reporter for a local newspaper in Scotland (the legendary -- in Dundee at least -- Dundee Courier), Rob had a stint as a sports writer, before switching his focus to marketing communications. He then spent several years writing, editing and managing direct-to-customer publications and other sales and marketing material for a number of corporations -- in-house and through agencies -- winning a couple of awards for client publications along the way.

In 2002, Rob swapped Edinburgh, Scotland for Toronto, Canada to join Redwood Custom Communications (Customer Publishing Agency of the Year 2006), before continuing west to write for the online marketing gurus at the Internet Marketing Center in Vancouver, becoming their senior writer. He started Tincan Communications in 2006.

Rob holds the Postgraduate Diploma in Direct Marketing from the Institute of Direct Marketing in the UK and has a BA in Publishing.
